Anytime Decision Making with Imprecise Probabilities

چکیده
This paper examines methods of decision making that are able to accommodate limitations on both the form in which uncertainty pertaining to a deci sion problem can be realistically represented and the amount of computing time available before a deci sion must be made. The methods are anytime algo "_th in the sense of Boddy and Dean [1989] . Tech Diques are presented for use with Frisch and Haddawy's [ 1992] anytime deduction system, with an anytime adaptation of Nilsson's [1986j probabilis tic logic, and with a probabilistic database model. 1 ANYTIME ALGORITHMS FOR

Strategy Selection in Influence Diagrams using Imprecise Probabilities
This paper describes a new algorithm to solve the decision making problem in Influence Diagrams based on algorithms for credal networks. Decision nodes are associated to imprecise probability distributions and a reformulation is introduced that finds the global maximum strategy with respect to the expected utility. We work with Limited Memory Influence Diagrams, which generalize most Influence ...
متن کاملDecision Making with Monotone Lower Probabilities of Infinite Order
Properties of convex and monotone capacities of infinite order in Polish spaces are studied and used to justify the representation of certain situations of imprecise risk (imprecisely known probabilities) by lower probabilities, which are monotone of infinite order. Decision making with imprecise risk is then modeled, and linear utility theory is shown to be generalizable to the case of impreci...
متن کاملThe Value of Using Imprecise Probabilities in Engineering Design
Engineering design decisions inherently are made under risk and uncertainty. The characterization of this uncertainty is an essential step in the decision process. In this paper, we consider imprecise probabilities (e.g. intervals of probabilities) to express explicitly the precision with which something is known. Imprecision can arise from fundamental indeterminacy in the available evidence or...
متن کاملDecision Making with Imprecise Second-Order Probabilities
In this paper we consider decision making under hierarchical imprecise uncertainty models and derive general algorithms to determine optimal actions. Numerical examples illustrate the proposed methods.
متن کاملMeasuring the overall performances of decision-making units in the presence of imprecise data
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a method for measuring the relative efficiencies of a set of decision-making units (DMUs) that use multiple inputs to produce multiple outputs. In this paper, we study the measurement of DMU performances in DEA in situations where input and/or output values are given as imprecise data. By imprecise data we mean situations where we only know that the actual val...
